New LIMS for Guernsey
Electronic pathology results have been available to download by all
of Guernsey’s 60 GPs for some time, thanks to a laboratory information
management system (LIMS) from Technidata.
Now, the island has ordered TD-Synergy, Technidata’s next-generation
LIMS. The system, which is web, browser and Windows-based, will enable
Guernsey to upgrade its community GP links from a one-way download to a
fully interactive Internet-based platform for real-time order
communications and results reporting.
“The new system will enable all security-cleared GPs, medical
specialists and nurses, wherever they are at the point of care, to order
tests, view results and share patient data from a single login”, says
Chris Guy, Chief Scientist in Pathology at Guernsey’s Health and Social
Services Department (HSSD).
For Guernsey’s hospital-based pathology department itself, TD-Synergy
enables LIMS data to be shared between all departments from haematology
to clinical chemistry. It also provides the integration platform linking
the LIMS to Guernsey’s new island-wide electronic patient record (EPR),
which is currently in development.
TD-Synergy will enable many new upgrades for the pathology
departments. Bloodbank will get a new EU safety-compliant blood-storage
system for vein-to-vein distribution and tracing. Histopathology will
get advanced voice recognition, image-management technology and new
tools for gathering, analysing and reporting cancer statistics, while
Microbiology will get access to the latest MRSA and other
infection-control values.
