Whittington gets new imaging department
Former Arsenal footballer Charlie George was among those celebrating
the official opening of Whittington Hospital’s new imaging department in
March.
The football player, a local resident, joined Whittington Hospital
Chair, Narendra Makanji; Clinical Director of Diagnostics & Therapies &
Consultant Radiologist, Dr David Grant; Whittington Hospital NHS Trust’s
Chief Executive, David Sloman; and David Rolfe, Managing Director of
Asteral, who designed and developed the facility for the ceremony.
“We are all delighted with the new department”, said Dr Grant.
“Working in such a modern and spacious environment with state-of-the-art
equipment enables us to offer the best possible service to our patients.
The structured approach to ongoing maintenance and fault handling is
already improving the quality of the service we deliver. Room downtimes
are markedly reduced.”
Reading-based Asteral developed the facility as part of a £30m,
15-year managed-equipment-service contract with the Trust. It includes
six digital radiography rooms, a 64-slice CT scanner and 1.5T MRI
scanner, ultrasound units and a digital dental unit. The unit first
opened its doors to patients in November 2006.
