Clinical Solutions chosen for ‘Portuguese NHS Direct’
Healthcare systems provider Clinical Solutions has been selected to
provide call-centre management and clinical decision-support software
for a new NHS-Direct-style helpline in Portugal, due to go live later
this month (April).
The software will be used by staff manning the service — Portugal’s
first national health helpline — to record patient calls and provide
information to aid advice for patients. It is hoped that it will also
help the country’s public healthcare system to manage its limited
resources and to allocate the correct level of care, to each case.
Private company, Linha de Ciudados de Saude (LCS), has been formed to
implement the programme and it is the first private/public sector
healthcare partnership of its kind in Portugal.
“Our public healthcare system is under great pressure to provide
healthcare with limited resources”, says Ramiro Martins, CEO LCS. “The
national helpline will provide a valuable means of support and reference
for the Portuguese people and will enable the public health system to
allocate its resources more efficiently — making sure that the right
level of care meets the right people.”
He said he saw Clinical Solutions, pictured below at last month’s
HC2007 exhibition, who have worked with the UK’s NHS Direct service for
the last six years, as “the ideal partner for delivering this service.”
