Spanish hospital chooses Orion health record portal
Clinicians at a top Spanish hospital will get faster and more
convenient access to patient data thanks to the implementation in
January of a new electronic health record and clinical applications
portal.
The
900-bed Hospital Universitario Son Dureta in Palma de Mallorca
(pictured), the largest health facility in Spain’s Balearic Islands,
becomes the first site in Europe to implement the joint Orion
Health–Oracle–Fujitsu solution, through which clinicians can search and
view information for daily tasks such as hospital intranet and web
applications and patient demographics. The system also provides access
to Orion’s web-based orders module, so that clinicians can order tests
electronically.
As part of the project, Orion has implemented an electronic
whiteboard in Son Dureta’s accident and emergency (A&E) department,
displaying up-to-date information about patients currently in the
department, including triage category, submitted orders, available lab
results and summary demographics. This data is extracted from other
information systems within the hospital and is updated every 15 seconds,
providing staff with an accurate snapshot of current patient activity.
“Hospital Son Dureta has chosen to implement the Orion–Oracle system
because we believe that this offers the most solid IT platform to assist
our clinicians in their work”, says Joan Marques Faner, Chief
Information Officer at the hospital.
Healthcare IT provider Orion Health is based in Auckland, New Zealand.
Its European headquarters are in London.
