Bulgarian ehealth card project goes to ICW and Cisco
The Bulgarian National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) have assigned the
implementation of Bulgaria’s electronic health card pilot to routing and
network security provider Cisco and ehealth specialist ICW.
The project will involve three GPs, five pharmacies and 1,000
patients, who will use their cards to identify them at each consultation
they attend. The system then automatically establishes a secure online
connection to verify the current insurance status of the patient and his
presence on the physician’s patient list.
The electronic health card system that is to be used enables secure
exchange of medical data according to internationally accepted standards
and has already successfully completed extensive pilot tests in Germany.
ICW has offices in Germany, Bulgaria, Austria, Switzerland and the
US.
