New video technology for surgeons
Sony has launched a medical recording device that will enable
surgeons to capture and store operation footage “with high-definition
clarity”.
Its PDW-70MD is the first medical recorder to allow the capture of
surgical operations in full 1080 HD — the highest quality image possible
and according to Sony “far superior to the 525–625 lines offered by
standard definition devices”.
The ability to view these recorded images on high definition screens
and monitors will greatly improve the surgeon’s operating experience,
says Sony.
As well as proving a valuable device for doctors, the device can also
be of value for surgical training. With its support for HD images, it
offers large audiences the opportunity to view the intricacies of
surgical operations as if they were happening live.
