Kilmarnock hospital gets DR detectors

Gloucestershire-based digital radiography (DR) supplier Xograph Imaging Systems has installed its latest digital imaging technologies at the radiology department at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, Scotland.

Two Canon CXDI-40EG portable flat panel detectors and one Canon portable CXDI-31 detector — which can be used for a variety of clinical applications, such as lateral and axial exposures that require a horizontal xray beam — have been installed. The latter is particularly useful for patients who cannot be transferred to a table system, being only 2cm wide and weighing only 2.8kg. It is also suitable for paediatric applications, as the xray grid can easily be removed to reduce the patient’s xray dose.

The detectors are expected to greatly speed the throughput of patients in the department and to deliver high-resolution digital images to assist diagnosis, as images are produced only three seconds after exposure, without the radiographer having to leave the xray room.

“We are already experiencing the benefits of DR such as better, more efficient, patient throughput”, said Fiona Orr, Superintendent Radiographer at Crosshouse Hospital. “Children in particular find the speed of the examinations far less stressful than before.”

Crosshouse Hospital is one of the largest district general hospitals in Scotland and forms part of NHS Ayrshire and Arran Hospitals Division. It provides hospital services for adults and children in North Ayrshire and Arran.
