EMIS upgrades Population Manager
GP surgeries using EMIS’s clinical software products are set to
become the first in the country to generate recall lists of patients who
need flu and pneumococcal vaccinations automatically.
In a move that is expected to save surgeries time and resources, the
IT systems supplier has enhanced its Population Manager programme, which
is an integral part of EMIS’s widely used PCS and LV systems.
The system can now generate recall lists of patients who need to be
immunised to help surgeries comply with government requirements on
pneumococcal and flu vaccination.
Population Manager already contains 160 searches that enable
practices to extract information to calculate Quality Outcomes Framework
(QOF) points under the nGMS contract. The contract’s requirement that
GPs manage patient populations against levels of care can be fulfilled
quickly and simply because Population Manager is a part of the main EMIS
clinical system. This has enabled EMIS practices to score well when it
comes to QOF points — with average scores for 2004/5 well above the
national average.
“The main aim of this upgrade is to make these processes much less
labour intensive for GPs and their staff”, said Sean Riddell, EMIS
Healthcare Managing Director. “Surgeries will no longer have to carry
out long-winded searches to establish who needs immunisation.
“It will help deliver quality clinical outcomes more efficiently and
make it as easy as possible for practices to make financial claims under
the nGMS contract. Hopefully it will also free up more time for
surgeries to focus on meeting their QOF targets.”
The programme also makes it easier for GPs to comply with recent changes
to the childhood vaccination programme which require them to give
pneumococcal vaccinations to all infants under two.
