IP CCTV aids medical training
Tutors and medical students at an Oxford medical training school can
now interact in a live patient-care environment, thanks to a new
IP-based medical training system.
The system, designed by Scotia UK for Oxford Brookes University
School of Health & Social Care, uses specialist cameras and video and
alarm management software to enable the tutor to monitor all 24 beds in
a simulated ward facility remotely. He or she can also enter into a
two-way conversation with students at the bedside.
Each bed is monitored by a dedicated camera, which is connected,
together with a bedside microphone/speaker, to a transmitter/receiver
unit. This then transmits high-quality video and two-way audio onto a
local private network. Each camera is under complete control of the
tutor.
The video and audio output from all training sessions is recorded on
six standalone networked video recorders, enabling students to review
and analyse best practice.
IndigoVision, who provided the video and alarm management software,
is headquartered in Edinburgh. Scotia UK is also Edinburgh-based.
