Controlled substance prescription system adopted by Avon and Wiltshire

The Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) has adopted Ascribe’s Substance Misuse System to manage prescriptions for controlled substances.

John Golding, Drug and Alcohol Area Manager for Wiltshire said, “AWP welcomes this system as previously we had no computerised method of entering, managing or printing client prescription data. The reporting and analysis of our prescribing data should allow the Trust to make more collective decisions regarding patient care and to implement best practice across our prescribing area.”
The software can be integrated with patient administration systems and is compliant with the NHS National Programme for IT (NpfIT) interoperability and messaging standards.

In the first phase the system was rolled out to two of the Trust’s mental health units: West Wiltshire Specialist Drug and Alcohol Service (SDAS) and North Somerset SDAS.

AWP joins trusts in Birmingham, Rotherham, Lancashire, Merseyside and Berkshire that have adopted Bolton-based Ascribe’s Substance Misuse System.
