New training methods for Tees and North East Yorks
Tees and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust has streamlined its teaching
seminars by introducing Presentavote (pictured), an interactive
audience-response system designed to engage learning groups.
The technology, by Promethean AV Distribution, is being used to teach
medical students at St Luke’s Hospital, Middlesbrough — enabling
teachers to bring presentations to life and hold students’ attention for
longer.
“The Presentavote system allows us to elicit the views of the
students without putting people on the spot, and in doing so, creates a
fun and stimulating learning environment”, says Bryan O’Leary, Medical
Development Manager at the Hospital.
The system promotes group participation during discussion or debate
scenarios, spontaneous opinion gathering and more formal tests by
stimulating group feedback via individual response keypads. The
technology, which integrates easily with Microsoft PowerPoint, also
enables trainers to quickly assess whether everyone has understood a
certain topic before moving on.
Such has been the success of Presentavote that the Trust is now
looking to extend its use. “Not only do we want to use this technology
for teaching medical students, but we also want to use it to create more
interactive meetings within the Trust”, says Mr O’Leary.
Part of the Promethean Technologies Group Ltd, Promethean is a major
distributor of specialist interactive training. The Group’s headquarters
are in Blackburn, with overseas offices in the US, France and Germany.
