Cutting-edge scanners for BMI

Toshiba is to supply five state-of-the-art Aquilion 64-slice CT scanners as part of a £7.5m investment by BMI Healthcare. The scanners produce highly detailed volume and 3D images, allowing faster and more accurate diagnoses than the widely used single and early multi-slice versions.

“The new systems have the kind of speed and image quality that is especially useful when scanning regions of the body containing moving organs”, said Diana VanLoon, Diagnostic and Imaging Manager at the Alexandra. “This will prove invaluable in clinical areas such as cardiology, neurology and angiography. It will also aid in stroke assessment and improving critical and trauma care through increased acquisition speeds and faster reconstruction capabilities.”

“We initially looked at purchasing four CT scanners”, explained Steve Williams, BMI’s Corporate Purchasing Manager of Capital Equipment, who handled the procurement process. “But, after checking the lifetime cost and qualifying this against manufacturers’ offered discounts, we soon decided Toshiba provided the best value.”
The machines will be installed at five different hospitals throughout the country, starting with The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle. The remaining four will go to The Bath Clinic, Blackheath Hospital, London, Meriden Hospital, Coventry, and The Priory Hospital, Birmingham.
