Large-screen viewing package acts as diagnostic aid
London-based JVC has launched a large-screen viewing system intended
for use by medical imaging specialists.
The AcuScreen Pro package comprises a ‘Pro’ version of the AcuScreen
software, a JVC DLA-SX21 projector, and a lightweight aluminium case
that holds the system’s photometer device as well as other accessories
used for measuring reflected light and colour generated by the
projection screen.
According to JVC, the AcuScreen Pro integrates easily into existing
hospital picture-archiving and communication system (PACS) viewing
environments, or functions as a standalone system.
The new version of the AcuScreen software achieves DICOM 14 greyscale
compliance by calibrating the gamma curve (greyscale settings) as well
as the colour look-up tables suiting it for coloured medical images.
The calibration also uses a specially designed hardware device that
simultaneously measures the reflected screen brightness and the ambient
light in a room. The software then calculates the optimum greyscale to
maximise visible detail.
According to Nick Fletcher, Marketing Communications Manager at JVC
Professional Europe: “The critical task of diagnosis within PACS systems
is done on a small, ultra-high-resolution desktop screen, but
large-screen viewing is a useful adjunct, especially where a group of
other doctors or trainees need to get the same view.”
