Intelligent home system for medication management
Building on its success in the field of reassurance telecare systems,
Yorkshire-based Tunstall has announced the availability of a complete
medication-management system.
Particularly suited to people with complex medication regimens, the
solution is an enhancement to Tunstall’s Lifeline 4000+ intelligent home
response unit, comprising a new medication-reminder facility and a
28-dose medication dispenser unit with a radio transmitter.
The system is intended to act as a secure and reliable means of ensuring
medicine is taken as prescribed, providing reassurance and assistance to
both patients and their carers.
Steve Sadler, Technical Director at Tunstall says: “PIN-enabled
technology allows authorised carers to dial in and predefine the time
and frequency of the medication reminder. This information is then
communicated wirelessly from the Lifeline 4000+ unit to the medication
dispenser, which at the designated times triggers audible and visual
alerts for the user, who must respond to the alert and can then access
the medication.”
Additional safety features have been incorporated to help ensure
compliance. If the patient fails to respond to the alert and to take the
prescribed medicine, this fact is communicated back to the Lifeline
unit, which then raises an automatic call to the monitoring centre. The
dispenser will only open at predefined times, ensuring patients do not
take the wrong dose.
Sadler concludes: “Remembering to take the right medication at the
right times of the day can be challenging for many vulnerable people as
well as being a real concern for carers.”
