Ferrania PACS templating tool

Off the back of a successful stint at the UK Radiological Congress (UKRC), Ferrania Imaging Technologies, a global imaging company based in Berkshire, plans to demonstrate its TraumaCad solution at the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Exhibition in Birmingham, 21–23 September.

The TraumaCad is part of Ferrania’s LifeWeb RIS/PACS portfolio of solutions and can drop into any PACS environment. It is a pre-surgical templating solution that allows the importing and exporting of any PACS file (for example, CT or xray), as well as the importing of JPEG scanner and digital camera images.

According to Ferrania, it can simplify pre-operative planning — particularly in complex procedures — while also rendering it more cost-effective. Displaced components can easily be ‘cut out’ and repositioned, and surgeons can look at several scenarios onscreen for both viewing and measuring the results of different options.

Precision calibration is achieved through TraumaCad’s ruler tool, and measures can be made in manual, semi-manual or automatic mode. In addition to the normal range of measurements, Cobb angle, Dror Paley, leg length discrepancies and misalignment tests are included.

The tool also facilitates access to the digital template libraries of orthopaedic manufacturers, via the web, and new or additional templates can be added or incorporated.
