Cognos gives staff access to quality data at Cardiff and Vale
Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust has invested in US-headquarters Cognos
information management technology to improve staff access to better
quality data. The solution, implemented by Bidetime, Manchester-based
resellers of Cognos software, has been designed to suit a range of needs
from the CEO to the clinician. The project was instigated following the
merger of four trusts all using different IT systems.
Data is now held in a central repository designed to accommodate data
from multiple systems. Even IT-naive staff can now access automatically
produced routine reports as well as perform fast manipulation of data for
ad-hoc analysis and enquiries. Information provided includes referrals,
waitinglists and times, consultant-based activity, and information for
clinical audit and governance.
“The Cognos technology gives staff at all levels access to relevant and
up-to-date information to enable them to operate as effectively as
possible”, said Andrew Goodall, Head of Performance Improvement at the
Trust. “The major driver behind the project was to ensure that crucial
operational information is available to everyone who needs it — not just
IT experts.”
Software deployed includes Cognos Metrics Manager, Cognos PowerPlay,
Cognos Impromptu and Bidetime’s Intelligent Datawarehouse.
