Desktop Mobile keeps elderly in touch
Hants-based Burnside Telecom has developed an easy-to-use phone system
for the elderly and infirm. The Desktop Mobile is aimed at the
institutionalised elderly and disabled who find mobile phones difficult or
impossible to use, and landlines unavailable or expensive to install in
their care home or rehabilitation centre.
The system can be used with any type of corded or cordless desktop
phone, combining all the benefits of the mobile phone with the comfort and
additional features typically available from a desktop phone.
To set it up, a SIM card is slotted into the Desktop Mobile, a dual
band antenna and mains power connected, then a handset, suitable for or
familiar to the user can be employed, with all its stored information.
“With Desktop Mobile, there is no need for anyone to struggle with a
tiny keypad or dark screen”, said David Robinson, Director of Burnside.
“People of any age can make calls easily over the mobile network, using
the same telephone handset that they have been using at home for years.”
