Speech-recognition tool for Northumbria Healthcare
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the largest healthcare trusts
in the UK, has turned to SpeechReport, a digital dictation and
speech recognition application from G2 Speech, to speed up administrative
processes.
Powered by SpeechMagic from Philips Speech Recognition Systems, SpeechReport is
a network-based technology supporting client–server architecture and can
be used for all medical specialties. SpeechReport is currently being
rolled out across five departments. It is hoped, however, that the tool,
which allows for a dictation volume of up to 1,000 hours and 4,000 users a
day, will soon be expanded Trust-wide to more than 1,500 users across nine
locations, including North Tyneside General Hospital and the Wansbeck
General Hospital.
SpeechReport with SpeechMagic was introduced at Northumbria because traditional tape
dictation and transcription was proving too time-consuming, said Martin
Wilson, Acting General Manager with the Trust. “SpeechMagic is best suited
to fulfil our requirements and will help us reduce turnaround time and
transcription backlogs resulting in positive effects on our cost
structure”, he said.
