Atkins to enable new independent treatment centres
Atkins Telecoms has been awarded a contract to design and supply IT and
telephone systems to one of the new Independent Sector Treatment Centres,
privately owned and operated hospitals commissioned by the Government to
reduce waitinglist numbers.
The IT systems will provide clinicians and administrators with access to a
range of IS applications, including workstations, IP-based networks and
firewalls, via an offsite Citrix-based service.
“The systems we supply will also support PACS for electronic versions
of xrays and other images and provide a connection via NHSnet to national
healthcare applications being rolled out under NPfIT”, said Simon
Williams, Senior Group Engineer for the company, part of the global Atkins
group. “This is a particularly significant contract for us, partly because
the IT demands of this new-generation treatment centre differ from our
normal hospital work, and partly because it brings us into contact with
the emerging needs of NPfIT in the NHS.”
