ntl IP network for Macclesfield BC

ntl’s business division, ntl business, has secured a contract to design and implement an advanced communications network for Macclesfield Borough Council.

The firm, a leading provider of communications services to businesses and the public sector, will connect 19 sites across the council region — enabling faster and more effective communications, and saving money and boosting efficiency into the bargain.

The new internet protocol (IP) network will enable Macclesfield Borough Council to offer many of its services online, more quickly and conveniently for the public.

The ntl infrastructure will also support the rollout of an extensive customer relationship management (CRM) solution which will improve public access to key services, information and resources by telephone, email or online.

David Naylor, Head of ICT and eGovernment Champion at Macclesfield Borough Council, said: “In the run-up to the 2005 egovernment targets, this investment in a state-of-the-art communications network is vital to bring Macclesfield, quite literally, up to speed. Having worked successfully with ntl in the past, we were convinced that the local team would more than meet our requirements, both in terms of the technical solution and project management skills.”

The contract to provide the IP network was awarded to ntl following its successful completion of a project to upgrade the council’s cabling in Macclesfield Town Hall.
