CareNotes, a computerised record system for mental healthcare, has gone
web-based — and the new version looks set to save the sector both time
and money.
The original CareNotes system, by software provider Strand
Technology, is already in use by 14 NHS trusts across the UK. The
web-based version is likely to prove even more popular. “Because it’s
Internet-based there is complete ease of access to patient records
throughout the country. It also makes it extremely cost effective, with
information available wherever and whenever it’s needed”, said Strand
Managing Director, Graham Phillips
The system, which is fully NPfIT compliant, includes a full and
partial outpatient booking system, including tailormade clinic slots and
client tracking, admissions and absence, as well as bed-state reporting
for inpatients.
One of the features of the web-based model is a new SMS text alert
function, which allows a whole care team to be contacted simultaneously
regarding a patient’s treatment or medication, or to remind patients to
take vital medication.
“We live in a world now where most people have a mobile phone. With
care in the community, this is just another potential for technology to
help people to get by”, said Mr Phillips.
“So much mental healthcare is delivered in the community and can be
spread out over a wide area. CareNotes can allow healthcare
professionals to access patient details — even from their own homes”, he
said.
