ECDL raising IT standards in Edinburgh

When NHS Lothian University Hospitals Division (NHSL-UHD) was looking for a learning solution that would allow it to increase the IT efficiency and literacy of its staff, it opted for Thompson NETg’s European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) course, a widely recognised standard of competence.

A partnership between the Scottish Executive and learndirect Scotland funded the pilot project and NHSL-UHD acquired 650 free licences, which it used to implement a web-based version of the ECDL, accessible via learndirect’s NHS ECDL portal, Skillnet.

The pilot project was a great success and it was decided to open up the availability of the course to the whole organisation using NTEgLearning.com, part of Thompson’s Integrated Learning Solution. To date, the programme has been extremely well received, with over 1000 people currently signed up. Nearly 600 ECDL module tests have been taken by learners since December of last year.
