Midlands-based Genus Group has addressed the dilemma faced by
organisations that have to maintain large archives of information over
the long term, but also need it to be accessible. Microfilm, though
virtually indestructible, is bulky and its information is not easily
retrievable. Electronic systems can be rendered obsolete and subject to
cyber accidents. With the Genus system, paper and electronic documents
are scanned onto traditional microfilm, giving a life of about 500 years
and, at the same time, uploaded onto an electronic retrieval system that
can be accessed through an intranet at any time. The combined result
provides security for essential data with the ability to access critical
information at the click of a mouse.
