| Following a
successful pilot, 50 GP practices within the Westminster and Kensington
and Chelsea PCTs are to be supplied with document-management software from
Pontefract-based PCTI Ltd. The aim is for all the surgeries eventually to
become paperless. “Our software is designed to provide GPs and practice
managers with a solution that helps them manage the large amount of
correspondence received every day”, explained Philip Young of PCTI. “More
importantly, it improves efficiency by delivering paper documents
electronically, whilst integrating with the practice’s computerised
records.
We offer the most widely recognised practice-specific document
management system in primary care, not least because of our ability to
work with legacy clinical systems as well as modern enterprise-based
solutions. Its installation at the London PCTs ties in with the upgrading
of all their existing EMIS systems, setting the trusts in good stead to
meet the CRS 2010 target.”
The £100 000 contract is a key ingredient in the trusts’ delivery of
patient-centred care, with positive feedback from the pilot demonstrating
that both doctors and administration staff found the system extremely user
friendly.
“We see its installation as an important part of our work to improve
patient care by speeding up response to results”, commented James
Fitzpatrick, the senior manager with overall responsibility for ICT at
both trusts. “This will make the monitoring and managing of chronic
diseases more robust and be a huge step towards the paperless practice
scenario.”
