Microtest launches in-house dispensary module for GP practices
17 February 2010
Microtest has launched a new Dispensary Module for its GP
practice system to assist its dispensing practice users.
The module, which is integrated into Microtest’s core clinical system,
Evolution, uses barcode technology to identify medicines and patients,
and provides vital checks aimed at eliminating dispensing errors and
improving patient safety.
The Dispensary Module, which is due to go live at Liskeard’s Rosedean
House Surgery at the end of February, includes a wide range of key
features, such as stock control and ordering, as well as other functions
to improve efficiency in the dispensary.
The module fully supports touchscreens and allows prescriptions to be
printed with the patient’s NHS number as a barcode, which means
dispensers can quickly select the patient by scanning. When a generic
medicine is prescribed, it can automatically be linked to a dispensed
trade medicine, and any changes to the quantity prescribed can be
updated directly on the patient record.
In addition, any changes made to drug names will be easily updated as
the product barcodes are held within Evolution’s integrated drug
database, the Multilex Drug Data File from First DataBank Europe.
Chris Netherton, Managing Director of Microtest explains: “We work hard
at Microtest to develop and maintain additional integrated modules for
Evolution in-house, which gives us more control over our core products
and presents a single, intuitive, user interface across the whole
clinical system for our practices. Our new Dispensary Module is the
result of listening to and working with our customers to meet their
dispensary requirements.”
David Sheppard, Practice Manager at Rosedean House Surgery in Liskeard
said: “The Dispensary Module is exactly what we were looking for, as it
will improve efficiency by reducing the amount of time taken to dispense
each item whilst virtually eliminating the risk of dispensing error. It
has been immensely satisfying to work with a clinical system supplier
who has listened to, and fully understood our problem, before developing
a solution that exceeds our initial request.”
