Microtest launches automated swine flu reporting service
19 January 2010
Microtest, the UK’s fourth largest primary care clinical system
supplier, has launched an automated swine flu reporting service to help
its users meet primary care trust and Department of Health requirements
quickly and easily.
With Pandemrix and Celvapan vaccine available to GP practices to help
immunise patients against swine flu, practice IT staff are working
around the clock on their clinical systems in order to identify at-risk
patients.
Users of Microtest Evolution and Practice Manager 2 are being saved
this task. Microtest’s new service automatically checks patient lists
for the 700 indicators which identify patients urgently needing the
potentially life-saving immunisation, thus eliminating the need to
search patient lists manually and saving time and resources.
Chris Netherton, Managing Director of Microtest explains: “Patient
lists and mail-merge files are already in place at every Microtest
practice to ensure that practice staff have all of the necessary data at
their fingertips as soon as they start work each day. It is then a
simple case of merging the target files to produce the necessary patient
letters, ensuring that patients are ready to be immunised as soon as
there is a free appointment.”
The service also helps practices meet targets by creating lists of
immunised patients, as well as automatically producing the weekly and
monthly anonymised progress reports that practices are required to send
to their PCT and the Department of Health.
Simon Colbeck, Practice Manager at Cheltenham Road Surgery in
Gloucester said: “This is a really great service. It means I don't have
to spend hours running searches and compiling reports for the Immform
Website, both for seasonal flu and swine flu. I find the swine flu
information and spreadsheets on our server clear and extremely useful
both for progress reports and for analysis.”
Sarah Thompson, Primary Care Development Manager at NHS Cornwall and
Isles of Scilly said: “I do really appreciate all the hard work
Microtest has carried out for practices and the PCT in relation to data
collection for Swine Flu. With this easy-to-use spreadsheet I am able to
retrieve the exact data I require for payments and make the process less
time consuming for practices.
"Practices who have a different system supplier are finding this
process not as straight forward. It would make the retrieval of
information less stressful for the practice if all Systems Suppliers
could offer this service.”
