NHS Direct TV moves to new digital channel
3 April 2008
NHS Direct has moved its Freeview service from SkyText to Teletext to
ensure the service is available to a larger potential audience.
The re-launched service will also have more emphasis on self-care,
health at home and practical answers to common health issues.
The NHS Direct Freeview service is available across all of Teletext’s
digital text services and will ‘sit’ behind ITV1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4,
Channel 4, E4 and More4, as well as Teletext’s own public service
channel, Channel 100.
To access the service, a viewer presses the ‘text’ button on the
Freeview remote control while viewing one of the above channels and
selects page 700, or goes to Freeview channel 100 and presses the blue
button on the remote control. The service is not available on Virgin
Media's cable TV — the only cable TV service left in the UK.
Ronnette Lucraft, NHS Direct commercial director, said: “We are
pleased to be working with Teletext in the delivery of NHS Direct’s
service on digital television and hope that this partnership will allow
more people to benefit from NHS Direct information in the comfort of
their living room.”
