SNOMED CT condition checking added to Multilex drug knowledgebase
13 February 2008
First DataBank Europe (FDBE) has added live condition checking using
the standard clinical terminology of SNOMED CT to its drugs
knowledgebase, the Multilex Drug Data File (Multilex DDF).
This means that patient data recorded using SNOMED CT codes can
be used within a Multilex DDF condition check. The development was
undertaken to comply with NHS Connecting for Health guidance on the use
of SNOMED CT for the NHS Care Records Service.
FDBE’s clinical decision support runs several active checks,
including a condition check, to determine whether the medication and
patient profile adversely interact. The condition check determines
whether the selected medication has contraindication or precaution
alerts associated with the age, sex or concurrent conditions of the
patient.
The linking of SNOMED CT patient data to FDBE contraindication and
precaution alert messages has represented a significant development
effort and it is the dedication to the quality of this decision support
module that puts FDBE firmly at the forefront of patient safety.
Keith Kirtland, Sales and Marketing Director at First DataBank
Europe, said, “This is a major milestone for FDBE as it represents the
final piece of work to integrate SNOMED CT into Multilex DDF. Building
upon this foundation of modernised standards and interoperability, FDBE
is now focusing on a range of exciting new decision-support enhancements
for 2008/9.”
