JAOtech launches new range of bedside terminals
24 January 2008
JAOtech has unveiled three new terminals for the hospital patient
entertainment market. Based around PC technology with a range of
different processor options, the terminals can be run on Linux and
Windows and are compatible with all major PC applications. The terminals
are noiseless and are made with anti-bacterial plastics.
The terminals are designed to comply with UL60601 the US national
standards for electrical medical equipment safety, and feature
anti-bacterial plastics and a noiseless design. They can be cleaned
using conventional hospital cleaning and sterilisation agents, offering
a wipe-down design, and sealed front and rear faces to IP65 and IP64
respectively.
Using state-of-the-art processors, and creative heat dissipation
including the use of the support arm, means the terminals do not require
a fan for cooling. Features such as call alerts are implemented using
LEDs, so that the only sound output from the terminal is via the
attached headphones, optional telephone or mini loudspeakers.

The support arm incorporates a patented clutch that gives way under load
in a controlled manner. Added in response to customer feedback, this
safely discourages use of the terminal as a lifting aid or patient
support with risk of damage to the wall, the terminal or injury to the
patient or ward staff.
All three terminals are offered with a full package of peripherals
supporting all popular patient entertainment terminal applications.
These include a VoIP phone, magstripe/ smartcard readers, high
resolution camera for patient monitoring, biometrics, barcode scanner
and a wireless keyboard.
