Three NHS trusts integrate with Rhapsody
20 August 2007 Orion Health Limited has announced that three more
NHS trusts have adopted its integration software, Rhapsody Integration
Engine, to link internal systems and to interface to systems deployed
under the National Programme for IT (NPfIT). East Lancashire Hospitals
NHS Trust and the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic and District
Hospital NHS Trust have both adopted Rhapsody for internal integration.
In addition, Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust has recently
completed deployment of Rhapsody to manage integration to their NPfIT-supplied
systems. Salim Badat, IMT Programme Manager at East Lancashire
Hospitals NHS Trust explained, “Within our facilities, we plan to use
Rhapsody to connect multiple hospital systems, including PAS, pathology,
PACS, pharmacy and radiology.”
Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust has implemented Rhapsody to
provide inter-system messaging across clinical systems including the iPM
patient administration system (PAS) provided under NPfIT, CRIS
radiology, results reporting, pathology and local clinical databases.
Rhapsody is currently processing 6,500 PAS messages daily in
Northampton. Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic and District
Hospital NHS Trust (RJAH) is using Rhapsody to transfer radiology
reports from their newly implemented radiology information system (RIS)
to local GPs and into the Trust’s Graphnet electronic patient record
system.
“Delivery timeframes for Connecting for Health systems remain
uncertain, and we see NHS trusts increasingly looking for tools that
help them with their immediate integration needs, both for internal ICT
projects and National Programme initiatives,” said Simon Philpott,
Director UK and Ireland for Orion Health. "We believe that Rhapsody
Integration Engine is proving popular because it puts control of
interfacing back into the hands of the Trusts. This is allowing Trusts
to be compliant with the requirements of Connecting for Health while
achieving their own local ICT aims.”
