Child databases “put children at risk”

The Government’s attempts to monitor every child in the country through a system of national databases could backfire, according to a report published last month by the Information Commissioner’s office (ICO). The report by the independent Foundation for Information Policy Research (FIPR) says the new system risks stigmatising some children as ‘problems’ from the start, as well as eroding parental responsibility and deflecting attention from more carefully targeted measures.
