BMA urges doctors to tell patients about the CRS now
The British Medical Association has decided not to wait passively for
the NHS publicity campaign about the NHS Care Records Service (CRS) in
England, scheduled by the Department of Health for next year.
Following the announcement by Health Minister Lord Warner that NHS
Connecting for Health would be running a trial publicity campaign about
the CRS next spring (bjhc&im November 2006, p4), the BMA’s Chairman, Mr
James Johnson, wrote last month to every doctor in the country, urging
them to start telling their patients about the CRS straight away.
He said: “People with medical records containing information about
unwanted pregnancies, mental illness and HIV status in particular, will
need to be reassured that they have the right to keep this information
between themselves and their doctors.”
