Visually impaired students get better access to textbooks

 

For the first time, advanced scientific notation and mathematical formulas of the type that would be encountered in a university mathematics or physics degree course are becoming available to blind and visually impaired students.

An EU Information Society Technology (IST) project, VICKIE, has helped break down the barriers to further and higher-education by creating new processes and software that can convert digitised books into any format these students choose.
