Police say they should know who is mentally ill

 

Legislation should be enacted that requires doctors and social workers to disclose to the police information about mentally ill patients who are likely to harm themselves or be a risk to the public. This call has come from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) following the publication of the inquiry into Michael Stone’s infamous and murderous attack on the Russell family in 1996, which revealed a picture of agencies not communicating with each other and losing records.
