| A frank exchange
of views in the British Medical Journal in July emphasised that the
medical profession and the Department of Health are still deadlocked
over England’s national Care Record Service’s consent model. The BMJ
gave seven pages to the debate in its 1 July edition, followed two weeks
later with several letters from its readers.
Proponents of the DoH’s favoured opt-out model — under which patients
are presumed to consent to their records being shared — claimed that it
cuts bureaucracy and minimises doctors’ workload while allowing patients
to choose.
