IT-illiterate MPs hinder progress

Following the release of a report accusing the Government of failing to support the UK’s knowledge economy, online news provider Silicon.com reported in mid-May that a poll of its readers revealed that 72% of responders believe that MPs generally do not have enough relevant knowledge and understanding of IT, and that this is holding back innovation and business in the UK.

It also reported that, in the view of Tory MP for Welwyn Hatfield Grant Shapps, MPs’ failure to understand the benefits that technology can deliver could result in flawed legislation with detrimental effects for citizens or businesses.
