Hospitals Trust has circulated a warning to its staff after discovering
large numbers of personal files, including MP3 music downloads, on one
of its servers. The abuse was discovered after a hard-disk crash on a
server at the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate in April. The restore
routine took much longer than expected. On investigation IT staff
found a “significant number of large personal files” on the tapes,
including music, videos and photos. These had evidently been downloaded
by staff onto their desktop PCs and then stored on the server.
