the Medical Defence Union (MDU) is advising doctors to inform patients
that it may not always be possible to maintain confidentiality when
using electronic media. In its new publication on communicating
electronically, the MDU says that mobile phones, videoconferencing and
email have had a profound impact on the confidentiality of patient
information and that patients should be made aware that these methods
are neither totally secure nor foolproof.
