| The British
Medical Association hopes that, should the Legislative and Regulatory
Reform Bill be enacted, the Government will use its powers to curtail
access to personal data contained in medical records.
The BMA says that the volume of subject-access requests to medical
records now hinders the work of GPs. The Bill is controversial
as it allows ministers, by order, to set aside the provisions found in
any primary legislation if they are judged to be a barrier to efficient
governance. Many, therefore, consider the Bill to be the greatest threat
to democracy yet by far.
