| Fujitsu Services
was awarded a contract last month (April) by Connecting for Health (CfH)
to provide a national front-line service desk for both the National
Programme for IT (NPfIT) and local NHS trusts, in a deal worth over
£41m. The contract, which will run until 2013, will require Fujitsu to
set up four call centres — in Wakefield, Stevenage, Manchester and Foots
Cray in Kent. At its peak, 870,000 NHS staff are expected to have access
to the service, which will manage an estimated 4 million calls every
year.
Fujitsu says that the new CfH service desk will be based on industry
standards and best practice and will scale up the functions of the
existing NHS National Service Desk, providing a single point of contact
24 × 7, 365 days a year.
Support provided by the National Service Desk will be merged into
Fujitsu’s system. The transfer is currently scheduled to take place this
autumn.
Fujitsu Services is one of the leading IT services companies in
Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It has an annual turnover of £1.99bn
and has its headquarters in London.
