The ICT plan for better patient journeys on the Isle of Man

Sean Brennan of Clinical Matrix Ltd and Paul Harper, Director of Strategic Information and Development, Department of Health and Social Security, Isle of Man Government, outline how the Island’s healthcare and socialcare services are to be modernised.

ABSTRACT

The opportunity to provide better delivery of healthcare and socialcare on the Isle of Man has given rise to an information management and ICT strategy that will be implemented in three incremental phases. Besides the need to enable delivery of the best possible healthcare and socialcare services to its citizens, two main drivers for a change to the provision of greater ICT support exist in the IoM: the need for electronic information exchanges with service providers off the Island; and the need to replace old ICT systems. An island-wide combined community-care-support service (CCSS) is to be procured, which will incorporate data from acute, primary care and social services and make it available to authorised users both on the Island and to approved care providers delivering a range of services that the Island procures from the UK.
