Interagency and cross-sector collaboration: some current challenges in creating the new information chains

David Grigsby looks at some of the practicalities of the Government agenda for multi-agency collaboration.

abstract

Collaboration between public-service sectors has been mandated by various Government initiatives aimed at improving services for older people, vulnerable children and in mental healthcare. It makes new and complex demands on electronic communications systems, which must enable workers in socialcare, healthcare and, in some instances, the police and schools to exchange information about individuals. The author highlights some of the barriers between healthcare and socialcare and how multi-agency information systems in socialcare are being networked.
