Changing the way the NHS in England works
Paul Charnley, Regional Implementation Director for the North
West and West Midlands, outlines the first moves being taken by the
National Programme for IT to engage the main users of the new national
Care Records Service in its development.
abstract
Following the setting up of the management structure for England’s
National Programme for IT in the NHS and the procurement of foundation ICT
systems and services, the National Programme’s main focus of activity is
now turning to the implementation of the NHS Care Records Service (NHS
CRS). Engagement by the ICT community and end users in the development of
the CRS is being fostered in a number of ways.
The Deputy Chief Medical Officer is spearheading clinician engagement
and clinical benefits realisation. Current activities include a series of
roadshows, visits to trusts and the launch of the Frontline Support
Academy.
A national Care Record Development Board (CRDB) is being established,
to be informed by best-practice process-design groups and CRDB action
teams that are being constituted at local (cluster) levels. Clinician
engagement, healthcare-process redesign and ICT deployment characterise
the current phase of this national programme.
