Information sharing in healthcare and socialcare: a question of
understanding
Roger Staton argues the case for the development of a language for
shared care and training in interagency communications skills.
abstract
This article reviews the current position on information sharing,
identifying the legislative framework that underpins the information-sharing
agenda and some of the progress that has been made in terms of protocols and
technology. It then looks at some of the less obvious issues around
communication and language and concludes that information sharing will only
be successful if more attention is given to the development of information
and data standards, across healthcare and socialcare, and to the education
and training of staff in the importance of information management.
