abstract

The imposition of the Care Records Service on the NHS in England is an opportunity for the current practice of healthcare to evolve. But, given the approach that has been adopted, the culture of the organisation and the suppliers providing the solutions, will this become a reality? This article looks briefly at some of the concepts involved in implementing clinical IT and specifically at the implications for hospital pharmacy, based on a pilot exercise undertaken in 2001–2.
