Some expectations and perceptions of electronic transfer of prescription systems

One of the factors in gaining buy-in to new ways of working requires the expectations of potential users to match the reality of what the new system can deliver and what it can change. Research done last year by Darren Mundy, Professor David Chadwick and Dr Ed Ball offers some insight into the current understanding of a small group of would-be users of ETP systems.

abstract

This article summarises the findings of five sessions of a focus group’s discussions on the electronic transfer of prescriptions (ETP), held in 2003 at Salford and Huddersfield Universities. The aim of this evaluation was to ascertain the views of primary care prescribers and community pharmacists on the introduction of ETP and on existing ETP pilot models. Eight views identified as most important from the findings are described.
