Computerised prescribing and its impact on medication-error
rates

abstract
There is growing awareness of the occurrence of medical errors,
and the publication of the Chief Medical Officer’s report Organisation
with a Memory and the establishment of the National Patient
Safety Agency underline the government’s willingness to tackle
this issue. This article, which summarises the evidence from a
series of studies and review articles, presents some of the
published evidence that the use of computerised clinical systems can
reduce the incidence of medication-related errors.
