Current trends in five fields of
medical informatics in Romania are described. Most sections start
with a short historical background. The article starts with the
major projects on information systems in healthcare management,
followed by the use of IT in hospitals and primary care. The state
of medical informatics education and the state of medical
informatics research and development are briefly summarised. A
realistic view was intended throughout the paper in order to let the
reader feel the complex reality.
